You might think your logo is good enough, but what you don’t know is that for $10 istockphoto.com does not give you the exclusive rights for the illustration…. so maybe when you see your logo in somewhere else you will regret not hiring a professional designer in the first place!

In 2007-2008 I worked for a large company that had hired me to deal with a large Java web app that they had done with outsourced development from India. 10 developers in Bangalore, had worked for a year, and built a 40,000 LOC app that barely functioned in IE6 (and not at all in any other browser). With two guys in NYC and two from Hashrocket, we recreated the existing app in 10 weeks, and then went on to build out new features. Management was impressed. And then we all got laid off when the economy tanked. :-o

Did you need an extended license from istockphoto to use the illustration as part of your logo so you can use it on anything that gets printed for resale, like promotional materials?

I thought it costs a couple hundred dollars for that many credits, in which case, spending another hour or two on the logo so not to use stock art may have been a good idea.

I’d love to be wrong here.

P.S. Watch for out typos! On the website description text, fix “exchangning homes with you” to be “exchanging”
